Maxion Wheels and VWCV Support ID. Buzz World Record Attempt
Maxion Wheels, a leading global producer of automotive wheels, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV), are joining forces to support the Challenge4 team in its Guinness World Record attempt to visit the most countries in a continuous zero-emission vehicle journey. For the journey, Rainer Zietlow and his team will be driving a fully electric VW ID. Buzz equipped with Maxion Wheels.
The electric vehicle (EV) Guinness World Record attempt journey will begin in Hanover, Germany, at the VWCV headquarters, and is planned to record over 80,000 kilometers traversing through approximately 75 countries across Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and South and North America. The Challenge4 team estimates the trip will take more than eight months, of which Maxion Wheels will regularly report on their progress from its social media accounts and on its website.

The VW ID. Buzz features Maxion Wheels’ 18-inch stylish and sustainable passenger car steel wheels manufactured at the Company's Ostrava, Czech Republic, and Manisa, Türkiye, steel wheels plants. With sustainability already an inherent benefit of steel generating ~80% less CO2 than aluminum, Maxion’s next generation of steel wheels have been developed with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions even further.
“The Maxion steel wheels on the ID. Buzz demonstrate how steel can play an important role in the shift to zero-carbon mobility. As the world’s largest manufacturer of light vehicle steel wheels, we've modernized our steel options to meet the evolving style, sustainability and performance demands of OEMs and consumers,” stated Colleen York, Director of Global Marketing and Communications, Maxion Wheels. “As a leading wheel supplier for EV programs and new mobility fleets, Maxion Wheels provides numerous affordable and sustainable wheel options crafted using low carbon materials, reduced energy consumption, and more efficient designs and processes.”
This marks the second Challenge4 world record attempt that Maxion Wheels has supported. The first was the successful journey in 2022 to the summit of the Uturuncu volcano in Bolivia with the VW ID.4 GTX, setting a new Guinness World Record for reaching the highest altitude in an all-electric vehicle. We are pleased to participate in this endeavor, and once again, collaborate with our customer on this exciting world record attempt.
