Maxion Wheels Announces Start of Production on Its North American Tough and Light Fuel Efficient Steel Truck Wheel

64 lb. Steel Wheel Debuted at TMC21

CLEVELAND, Sept. 13, 2021 – Maxion Wheels, the world’s largest wheel manufacturer, today debuted it’s 64 lb., Tough and Light steel truck wheel from its booth 4057 during the TMC21 Fall Meeting in Cleveland, Ohio. The company unveiled the wheel concept in late 2019, and today announces it is in production from Maxion’s San Luis Potosí, Mexico, commercial vehicle steel wheels plant.

Fuel Efficiency and Increased Payload Possible with Tough and Light Wheel
Weighing in at 64 lbs., Maxion Wheels’ latest truck wheel for North America is the lightest standard five-hole 22.5x8.25 commercial vehicle steel wheel in the market. The new fuel-efficient wheel weighs less than its predecessor – yet is stronger as a result of optimized design, engineering and flow forming technologies.

With a 7,400 lb. payload wheel load rating, Tough and Light features a new hand hole design deviating from the traditional Maxion Wheels’ D-shape. The new shape is the result of design optimization analysis that reduced wheel structural stresses by more than 10% resulting in an even more efficient and durable wheel when compared to the previous generation.

“Maxion Wheels’ commitment to leading the commercial vehicle market with cost-competitive lightweight wheels is a key force behind this weight reduction breakthrough,” said Zeferino Neto, President of the Americas business unit, Maxion Wheels. “Improved fuel efficiency, fewer emissions and an increase in payload are just a few of the benefits that come from the lighter wheel. Multiply that by 18 and you have a very smart investment in your total cost of ownership.”
