Maxion Wheels Launches Solar Power Farm in Chihuahua, Mexico
Maxion Wheels’ light vehicle aluminum wheels plant in Chihuahua, Mexico, is now using power from their own solar farm which went live during a recent kickoff event. Adding solar power to the plant’s energy mix underscores Maxion’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions and advance environmentally-responsible manufacturing. The new photovoltaic system - installed by the energy company Iberdrola México - with a capacity of 499 kW and an estimated annual generation of 960 MWh, is a significant milestone in the company’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint.

Maxion’s Chihuahua solar project is the company’s third solar program and is integral to its sustainability strategy, Roadmap Zero, with global commitments to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The solar farm will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 420 tons each year – equivalent to planting and growing 6,930 trees annually – and supply around 2 percent of the plant’s yearly energy needs.
“This solar farm represents more than just a new energy source – it embodies our dedication to sustainability and our promise to make a meaningful impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Zeferino Neto, Business Unit President, Americas, Maxion Wheels. “As we work toward net-zero emissions by 2040, renewable energy projects like this will be essential to transforming our operations and creating a lasting, positive change."

The kickoff event “Switch On” was attended by Zeferino Neto, Alexandre Becker, Operations Director, Americas, Maxion Wheels, Juan Mortera, Plant Manager Chihuahua Maxion Wheels, and Jorge Abraham Cicler Vadillo, Commercial Team Leader Western Region Iberdrola México.
“Our Smart Solar system is an excellent option for our industrial clients to decarbonize their processes with photovoltaic energy, allowing businesses to not only be more efficient and cleaner, but also to operate at more competitive costs. We are proud to partner with Maxion Wheels for a greener world,” said Mr. Cicler.
As Maxion scales its sustainability initiatives, projects like these are powerful steps toward a cleaner, greener manufacturing model and a sustainable future for all.
