Maxion Wheels Launches Solar Power Farm in San Luis Potosí, Mexico
As a global leader in wheel manufacturing, Maxion Wheels continues to advance its sustainability journey with the commissioning of a new on-site solar photovoltaic system at its light vehicle and commercial vehicle steel wheels plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
The project, installed by Iberdrola México, marks an important milestone in Maxion Wheels’ commitment to reducing its carbon footprint through renewable energy and represents the Company’s ninth solar installation globally.
The solar installation has an installed capacity of 499 kW, supported by 1,073 photovoltaic modules, and is expected to generate approximately 919 MWh of clean energy annually. This will prevent the emission of around 617 tons of CO2 each year – equivalent to the carbon captured by more than 10,200 trees over the next decade – contributing directly to the decarbonization of the plant’s manufacturing operations.

The San Luis Potosí installation is part of a three‑project solar partnership between Iochpe-Maxion and Iberdrola in Mexico, alongside the solar installation at Maxion’s Chihuahua plant, launched in 2024, and a photovoltaic project at Maxion’s plant in Castaños, Coahuila, scheduled to begin operations in the coming months. This investment supports Maxion’s global sustainability strategy, Roadmap Zero, which outlines the Company’s commitment to achieving net‑zero emissions across its operations by 2040.
“Through this partnership, we are supporting Maxion Wheels in its transition toward cleaner and more environmentally responsible processes,” said Alfonso Campos, Commercial Director, Iberdrola México. “On-site photovoltaic energy enables lower emissions, greater cost stability and direct positive impact across the entire value chain. It is a tangible benefit for both industry and the planet, and it motivates us to continue growing together.”

“The inauguration of the photovoltaic solar panel system at our San Luis Potosí plant marks a decisive step in our ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation and environmental responsibility,” said Alexandre Becker, Business Unit President Americas, Maxion Wheels. “This project is the result of a collective effort across multiple teams, united by a shared purpose and a common vision.”
Located in San Luis Potosí, the capital of the state of the same name, the Maxion Wheels plant was inaugurated in 1996 and manufactures steel wheels for light and commercial vehicles. The facility spans approximately 70,000 square meters and serves a broad range of leading global automotive manufacturers.
The inauguration event was attended by Alexandre Becker and Alfonso Campos, as well as Sonia Mendoza Díaz, Secretary of Ecology and Environmental Management for the Government of San Luis Potosí; César Lara, General Secretary of the Regional Confederation of Mexican Workers (CROM); and Hugo Soriano, Plant Manager, Maxion Wheels San Luis Potosí.
