Maxion Wheels receives Aluminium Stewardship Certification
Maxion Wheels, the world’s leading wheel manufacturer, has been certified against the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard V3 (2022) for the manufacture and distribution of light vehicle aluminum wheels at the company’s Maxion Wheels Czech s.r.o. – Czech Aluminum facility in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
ASI is an industry-led initiative that aims to promote sustainability throughout the aluminum value chain. The initiative’s certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminum value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars – Environment, Social, and Governance – with the aim to address pressing sustainability issues in the aluminum value chain.
The manufacturing process at the plant in Ostrava includes melting, casting, heat treatment, machining, painting and associated support processes. The ASI certification attests that the plant operates with a commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and transparency, creating trust with customers, investors, and other stakeholders due to its wide acceptance in the industry.
The independent, third-party audit of Maxion Wheels was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group). A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances and minor non-conformances is available from page five of the summary audit report here.
ASI’s Standards apply throughout the supply chain, from bauxite mining through to downstream sectors that use aluminum in their products. All current ASI members in the ‘Production and Transformation’ and ‘Industrial Users’ classes work towards their ASI certifications within two years of joining ASI. Maxion Wheels has been a member of ASI since 2022.
